Many people don’t realize it, but we offer fabric by the yard. You do not need to order your window treatments, upholstery, furniture or fabric accessories through us – many people are handy with a sewing machine and don’t need professional help in making those things! But, if you are looking for a great source of fabric, without having to cross the river, stop on in to see what we have! Most fabrics are 54″ in width, with some fabrics as wide as 118″ wide (sheers). If you find a designer fabric on line, we can order it for you, and have it shipped anywhere.

Right now, order fabric for your home projects and receive 20% off the regular retail price! We will be open until 8 pm Thursday, until 6 pm Friday, and from 10-5 on Saturday – during the Hudson Huddle events. Feel free to come in and browse – we’d love to meet you!

Custom Tile Murals

Hi, all! I just met with Eric from Aamodt Companies in Spring Valley, WI, and WOW do they offer some unique options for tile! Check it out at http://www.aamodtcompanies.com/index.cfm?event=oakdalegallery.

They can offer a custom tile mural for any application – from kitchen backsplashes to showers to partition wall glass – with amazing resolution and durability. The photos, of course, do not do it justice, but serve as a starting point. Check it out! If you would like a photo mural of your beloved pup, we can do that. Would you like to install glass floor tile with photo-realistic grass (so you can enjoy that spring-time, grass-between-your-toes feeling year round) we can do that, too. Or, how about tile “wallpaper” in your shower. Very cool process and product. Let me know if you would like further information, or would like to see samples!

Greenwashing?

What do you think of the “green design” movement sweeping the country? Do you feel the changes it brings are helpful? Are you willing to pay extra for a product if it is “green”? Do you have a hard time sorting through what things are helpful to the environment and which are not? Many companies seem to be “greenwashing” their products to make them look green, when they are not. Does this anger you, or do you simply ignore all the hype? I would love to hear your thoughts about Green; leave your comments here!

Art Along the St. Croix

Are you searching for the perfect piece of art to grace your mantle? Waiting to run into a vase the exact size and color you need to fill that huge void above your entertainment center? Look no further! The Hudson area has some fantastic art resources to take advantage of.

Seasons on St. Croix is located on Second Street in Downtown Hudson, and represents dozens of local and regional artists in all media. From textiles to pottery, glass to paintings, you will find it here. They have a brand new gallery, and an artist reception event on the first Friday of every month. Kelley Galleries and Framing is located a little further down Second Street in Hudson. They offer a gorgeous array of original works, as well as reproductions, furniture and home accessories. Another local glass artist, Laurie Wilson, offers works in both stained and fused glass. If you want to take an afternoon drive, head east to Roberts. Color Crossing specializes in fiber arts. Whether you weave, knit, crochet, felt or spin, they will have just the yarn, fiber or supplies you need. They also just added a gallery, featuring pottery, rugs and more from local artists. Just another few minutes east, you will find a little gem of a gallery. Stone Soup in Hammond is a great resource of local artwork. Owner Jane Nicol features different artists than you will find in Hudson, making her shop well worth the drive. Whether you are looking for an original piece of art, or a more affordable print, or something small or large to decorate your home, the Hudson area has everything you need! You don’t need to cross the river to find high-quality, affordable gifts and artwork. And, of course, stay for something to eat – it’s hard to beat the restaurants in Downtown Hudson!

Building or Remodeling?

Are you considering a remodeling project? Or, maybe building a new home? Now is a great time to take on a project like these, since interest rates are low, and contractors are looking for work! How do you go about selecting a builder to work with?

The most important thing is to find a contractor or builder that you feel comfortable with. You need to have a level of trust with this person, as you will be seeing them a LOT! Research their process, and how you will be charged. For example, does the builder have an interior designer on staff to help you with selections? Do they charge you to design the home or addition? Will they work with plans designed by an architect? By meeting with several builders, you will find answers to your questions, and will see who you are comfortable working with.

A little fabric can go a long way. A window treatment doesn’t need to be extravagant, elaborate or formal. Just a little fabric will soften a window and add that finishing touch to a space. Look at what a little fabric did for this naked kitchen window!

We also recently installed the tile backsplash you see in the photos. The field tile is a porcelain with a stone look, and the random accent tiles are glass in tones of caramel, bronze and copper – with a little iridescence. Gorgeous!
