What do you think of the “green design” movement sweeping the country?  Do you feel the changes it brings are helpful?  Are you willing to pay extra for a product if it is “green”?  Do you have a hard time sorting through what things are helpful to the environment and which are not?  Many companies seem to be “greenwashing” their products to make them look green, when they are not.  Does this anger you, or do you simply ignore all the hype?  I would love to hear your thoughts about Green; leave your comments here!

  2. Well, I don’t really have pics of specific products. Greenwashing is more of an “advertisement” of sorts that promotes a product as being more “green” than it is. For example, some companies say granite isn’t green, since it is taken directly from the earth, which is not good for the earth. However, it can be argued that since it’s a naturally occuring substance, and not manmade, it is very green. Or, some say bamboo is “green” since it grows quickly and is therefore easily renewed. However, it only grows in a couple places on earth, so it needs to be shipped long distances to be used – definitely not green. Plus, it has to be glued into planks to be usable – that, arguably, is also not green. So, “greenwashing” is more an advertising technique, to make a product seem more green than it actually is.
